USS Puritan was an Ironclad built for the US Navy to replace it’s existing old and worn Ironclad built during the civil war. Laid down in June 1874 and launched in December 1882, and commissioned in December 1886, the Puritan had one of the longest build times of the Ironclad era, if not the longest. Despite this the Puritan managed to serve in the Spanish-American war in various roles from blockade to bombardment vessel. The vessel was sold for scrap in January 1922.
