Hms Dasher was an Avenger class escort carrier which served the Royal Navy for less than 1 year between July 1942 and March 1943 when she was tragically sunk off the coast of west Scotland by an explosion most likely casued by the aviation fuel being incorrectly stored and maintained. Orgininally she was laid down as the passenger ship Rio de Janerio, but was purchased by the USN and converted into an escort carrier, which was eventually sold off to the UK where it would take part in convoy escort duties.

On a side note I have visited the memorial in Ardrossan, and have passed by it quite a few times prompting me to create this model as a tribute.
